Daily Itinerary

Day 1 - Travel to Dominican Republic

Arrive in the Dominican Republic. We will transfer to Consuelo and meet our gracious host families. Participate in an Orientation program to determine our service goals for the week.

Day 2 - Market and Welcome

Walking tour of Consuelo where we will visit market & commercial area. Spend time with Batey communities and learn about their struggles.

Day 3 - Underground Caves and Beach Resort

Visit to La Cueva de Maravillas, underground caves east of San Pedro with Pre-Columbian Indian drawings. Optional afternoon at an all-inclusive Beach Hotel & Resort. Return to Consuelo for a meal with our host families.

Day 4 - Service Work

Work at a local a Primary School. Visit various communities & organizations in & around Consuelo Barrio Georges. We will also visit a Day Care for the working poor, Barrio 41 and the local cemetery. Return to host family for evening.

Day 5 - Work with Street Children

Full day trip to the colonial capital, Santo Domingo. Visit the Columbus Lighthouse monument. The majority of the day will be spent with Nichibosco, a day program for street children. We will also have a chance to visit the Colonial Zone and Cathedral and the tourist market known as Mercado Modelo

Day 6 - Beach Day

Enjoy a day trip to the public beach Guayacanes. Return to Consuelo and have a meal with a host family.

Day 7 - Cocoa Coop Tour and Head for Home

Tour of the Cocoa Cooperative in Hato Mayor. Other activities available in Consuelo. Final evaluation and reflection. Participate in a Despedida (farewell party) at the Program Centre with families invited from the local community. Begin journey home.
