Day 1 - Travel to Brazil
Meet at airport as a group and travel to Rio de Janeiro on an overnight flight with connections. *Optional addition of bus transport to airport from your place of departure*
Day 2 - Explore Rio de Janeiro
Welcome to Rio de Janeiro! Boasting a population of over seven million inhabitants, Rio de Janeiro is one of the most exciting cities in the world. Situated on the Atlantic Ocean with stunning beaches on one side and rain forest peppered throughout, Rio is visually stunning and has something for everyone. Known for it’s incredible beaches, stunning viewpoints, favela’s and cuisine, you are guaranteed to be mesmerized by this city.
We start off our first day after a long flight with a relaxed morning before heading out to Rio’s most iconic landmarks. Explore Copacaban beach, Christ the Redeemer statue and Sugar Loaf Mountain for stunning views of the city. Finish off the day at classic Brazilian BBQ rodizio before settling in for the night.
Day 3 - Explore Colonial Rio de Janeiro
Today we will focus on the history and culture of Rio and Brazil as a whole by visiting Colonial Rio. Be prepared for some breathtaking colonial architecture on Rio’s oldest streets, and explore many famous monuments, including but not limited to the cone-shaped anomaly that is the Metropolitan Cathedral.
For the afternoon we will make out way through the November 15 Square and Arco de Teles to the neighborhood of Santa Teresa. Off the beaten path, this quaint district containing numerous art galleries and restaurants. Enjoy some free time to trek the cobbled streets in search for souvenirs and keepsakes.
Spend the late afternoon on a tree-tops canopy activiy! Test your endurance and bravery as you balance on cables amongst the trees, all while enjoying the urban forests of Rio de Janeiro.
This evening enjoy a live samba and music show for our last night in the city!
Day 4 - Ilha Grande
This morning we will head to the island paradise of Ilha Grande! Once a Penal colony, this island is now dedicated to tourism. With no cars on the entire island, you can enjoy a relaxed, off-the beaten path vibe. Hike through lush tropical forests to turquoise coloured beaches, snorkel in pristine waters and enjoy fresh seafood meals. After our arrival and lunch, we get right into with a sea kayaking adventure. We will spend the afternoon kayaking along the eastern side of the island, making stops at beaches along the way. This evening enjoy dinner by the ocean.
Day 5 - Ilha Grande
Today we will head out and enjoy a full boat excursion along the bays of Ilha Grande. Along the way we will visit various stunning beaches before arriving to our snorkel destination at Lagoa Azul. Lagoa Azul boasts clear, crystal waters perfect for spotting the many fish and marine species in the area. A delicious lunch is served on one of our beaches. Set sail to return to Abrao for some afternoon shopping before dinner and returning to our hotel.
Day 6 - Ilha Grande
Today we will enjoy a long hike through tropical forests to the world famous beach Lopes Mendez. Hike up and down hilly forest terrain, past several beaches and have a chance to spot monkeys on your way to this stunning white sand beach. Upon arrival we will participate in a surf lesson with professional instructors! Enjoy a few more laid back hours on the beach before returning by boat to Abrao for our final dinner on the island.
Day 7 - Travel to Manaus
This morning we begin our long journey to Manaus, the largest city in the amazon. STart our day by travelling back to the mainand and then onto the airport for our flight. Upon arrival, enjoy a walking city tour of this colonial gem before retiring for dinner and an early evening.
Day 8 - Arrive in the Amazon Rainforest
This morning we will head out early for our Amazon adventure where we will spend the next few days discovering the countless natural wonders of this vital part of the world. We begin our journey by river boat where we can see the magnificent “ Meeting of the Waters” the junction of the Solimoes and Negro rivers. From here we journey deeper into Amazon territory to our lodge and home for the next 3 days. After getting settled in, we will head out on a boat ride to search for pink river dolphins and sloths. We will also get to take a swim in one of the Amazon’s tributary rivers! Return for an evening dinner at our lodge.
Day 9 - Jungle Hike, Piranhas & Nocturnal Boat Tour!
This morning we embark on a jungle hike and practice introductory wilderness survival techniques deep in the Amazon. Learn about the fascinating history, ecology, flora and fauna of the area. An immense variety of animals live nearby, including sloths and howler monkeys. The afternoon will be spent on boat journey to try our hand at piranha fishing.
After dinner and a beautiful sunset, board a boat and head out for a night tour to experience the lively nocturnal environment of the area. If we’re lucky, we’ll be able to see and hear various night time species including frogs, birds and even caimans!
Day 10 - Meet the Caboclo, Canoe Tour
Today, have the privilege to meet with the native Caboclo population. Learn about the typical way of life for local peoples, and how they have adapted to the jungle environment.
Enjoy an afternoon canoe tour of the flooded Amazon rainforest. Keep an eye out for exotic bird species and even the possibility of dolphins!
Group dinner & activities before final overnight in the jungle.
Day 11 - Homeward Bound
Enjoy one last morning in Brazil, with breakfast as a group at the hotel.
Travel to the airport and board your flight home, via connections.
Day 12 - Arrive Home
Arrive home after an unforgettable tour around Brazil, excited to share what you learned with your friends and family!
