Daily Itinerary

Day 1 - Travel to Peru

Travel to Peru.

Pick up your luggage and meet your Evolve Tours guides. Our private bus will transfer us from the airport to our hotel. We will have a snack upon arrival and then head to bed following an exhausting day in order to energize ourselves for the week ahead.

Day 2 - Bienvenidos a Cusco

Take a flight from Lima to Cusco.

Land in Cusco. We will transfer to our Cusco hotel by private vehicle and have time to settle in, freshen up, and enjoy lunch. We will embark on a guided walking tour of the city. Cusco has a rich historical past—from its indigenous people to the Incan era to Spanish colonization and modern times, we will have an opportunity to explore the many sights of this incredible city. We will also make sure to visit Barrio de San Blas, a picturesque neighborhood filled with artisans and craft shops.

We will spend the afternoon relaxing to acclimate to the altitude (3,400 m). Then, enjoy dinner as a group at a local restaurant, then get a good night’s sleep to prepare for the big days ahead.

Day 3 - Lares Hike

Today we begin our trek in the Lares Valley, the epicenter of the Incan Empire. We will be hiking through the Andes mountain range, passing through different environments including cloud forest and alpine tundra. Throughout the short hike we will be stopping for snacks, water breaks, and delicious freshly prepared meals.

We will arrive in our accommodation in Lares, and settle into our accommodations. Enjoy dinner as a group and participate in an icebreaker activity.

Day 4 - Service Learning in Peru

We will wake up early and eat breakfast. Transfer to a rural community to participate in a community service project. We will aid in supporting the Andean Alliance, an NGO project whose main focus is to build greenhouses in rural communities in the Lares Valley. Through the building of greenhouses the Andean Alliance hopes to decrease malnutrition which is prevalent in many of these communities. The NGO supports community led development and is focused on a ‘bottom up’ approach. The Alliance takes on a partnership role, enlisting the local community and the local government to share in the responsibility of building sustainable projects. The Andean Alliance fosters the relationship and overseas the building of projects in an effort to foster partners who are accountable. The participation of all stakeholders is integral to success, as this helps empower the community, leading to project ownership and resulting in one that is sustainable. Your contributions could include: Helping to erect/repair a greenhouse, Playing sports or creating a “fun day” or camp program for local children, and/or Site visits to communities and projects with hiking and discussion.

Day 5 - Service Learning Continued

After breakfast, we will transfer to the community to participate in one of the mentioned activities above. We will have lunch on site and continue with our community service for the rest of the afternoon.

Return to Lares to have dinner. This evening, we will get a chance to visit the hot springs nearby for a relaxing soak after a long day.

Day 6 - Ollantaytambo

We will say goodbye to our host then transfer to Ollantaytambo. We will visit an impressive Incan archaeological site located within the Sacred Valley. We will have time to tour and explore the area. If time permits we can stop at Mara, another ancient Incan Ruin and original salt mine.

Enjoy dinner as a group in town and spend the night in Ollantaytambo.

Day 7 - Machu Picchu!

Early in the morning we will take the first train up to Machu Picchu to enter the site as soon as it opens. We will have a guided tour of the ruins and visit all the main areas. After the tour you will have some free time to explore on your own.
