Starting in a 2000-year-old Mayan mountain city, we’ll walk through the remote rural villages of the Cuchumatanes mountains, an incredible variety of natural landscapes, staying with local families along the way. Ascend to the highest non-volcanic point in Central America. Visit an authentic village where inhabitants still wear the traditional traje of their ancestors, which make for a colorful and distinctive character that you can’t find anywhere else!

Student trip itineraries are completely customizable for your group, desires, and needs.
Day 1 - Travel to Guatemala
Drive to Antigua, in the shadow of Volcano Agua. Enjoy our first dinner and spend the night.
Day 2 - Antigua - Xela
Guided walking tour of Antigua. Take in the stunning colonial architecture, intact ruins from earthquakes and volcanoes over the years. Continue on to Xela, where we will have a pre-trip meeting to prepare for the trek ahead.
Day 3 - Travel to Trail Head
Under the leadership of our local guides, we will embark on a public transit bus journey to get to the trail head. Explore our first town of the trip, and begin our trek.
Day 4 - Acul - Xexecom
Begin trekking in the morning. Arrive in the village of Acul, talk about the Civil War. Stop at Mil Amores cheese farm, admire the views and buy some cheese. Following lunch, trek to Xexecom, our destination for the night. Use a temascal—a traditional Mayan sauna. Eat dinner with a local family.
Day 5 - Altiplano - Pueblo Paujil País
4 am start – start walking up the 87 switchbacks! A few hours later, switchbacks are done – watch the sunrise and eat breakfast. Continue on to Altiplano, the remote mountain plateau that features striking landscapes and views. Spend the night at Pueblo Paujil País.
Day 6 - El Río Pericón - La Ventosa
Trek to El Río Pericón for a quick dip. spend the next two hours hiking through a valley with incredible views. Hike to a local bus stop, catch another local ride, spend the night at a local family’s home. Use a temascal.
Day 7 - La Torre - Todos Santos
Start hiking up towards La Torre. Reach the top of La Torre, a 250m climb from the beginning of the day. Begin descent from La Torre, down 1300m. Following our mountainside lunch, reach the edge of Todos Santos. Explore the traditional town and spend the night.
Day 8 - Todos Santos - Xela
Early morning shuttle out of Todos Santos. Pass through Huehuetenango, have a quick snack. Arrive in Xela. Enjoy a final afternoon to explore Xela, buy some souvenirs, recap the trip, and prepare for our journey home.
Day 9 - Homeward Bound
Board our group flight home, excited to see our family and friends after an amazing trip to Guatemala.
