Day 1 - Travel to Malaysia
Fly to Malaysia, stop en route.
Day 2 - Arrive in Kota Kinabalu
Transfer via private transportation and check into our accommodation in the city for the night. Enjoy your rest for the night before an early start to our next day.
Day 3 - Gunung Mulu National Park
Early morning flights to Mulu. Head out to visit Deer and Lang Caves for up-close looks at the incredible stalactites and stalagmites in Lang Cave and marvel at the sheer size and impressiveness of Deer Cave. Watch the nightly exodus of millions of bats from Deer Cave during sunset.
Day 4 - Gunung Mulu National Park
Guided walking tour of Mulu by a certified park guide. Learn about the flora and fauna of this incredible ecosystem and protected area. Visit the beautiful Clearwater Cave. A two hour guided walk through the rain-forest explores two more caves and culminates in a visit to a beautiful waterfall.
Days 5 - 8 - Community Service
Integrate ourselves in our local Borneo community where we will have the opportunity to execute various meaningful community service projects to contribute to the community, mingle with the locals, and enjoy an authentic cultural experience.
Day 9 - Back to Kota Kinabalu
Say goodbye to our new friends and make our way back to Kota Kinabalu. Enjoy the evening exploring the urban centre.
Day 10 - Kinabalu National Park
Head to Kinabalu National Park, Malaysia’s first UNESCO World Heritage site. The park covers 754 square kilometers, and 4 distinct climate zones, ranging from rich lowlands to alpine meadows. Kinabalu offers an incredible varying array of ecologies and geographies. Begin altitude acclimation.
Day 11 - Begin Mount Kinabalu
Begin trekking up the mountain, starting with passing a beautiful waterfall in the first kilometer. As we ascend, the lush rain-forest below transforms into a more barren alpine landscape. Not to worry – it is equally beautiful in its unique nature. Evening at Laban Rata, our guesthouse at an altitude of 3272 m.
Day 12 - Summit Mount Kinabalu
2:30 am wakeup—let the summit begin. Ascend as a group through the darkness, arriving at the peak of 4,095 m in time to watch the sunrise. Take in the beauty of standing ‘on top of the world’ with our panoramic views, and feel good with yourself for completing the journey up. Descend to the base.
Day 13 - Kudat, Tip of Borneo
Transfer to Kudat, northernmost tip of Borneo. Visit the community’s beach turtle nesting project, which addresses the endangered turtle population. Join the night duty along the beach searching for turtles and eggs to place within the safety of the hatchery. Night cultural program with community, including singing, dancing, and local wardrobe attires.
Day 14 - Kudat, Tip of Borneo
Spend the morning working with the community on landscaping and improving accommodation infrastructure and appearance. Afternoon drive to the Tip of Borneo – learn about the local legends of pirates and village raiding, visit the Giant Bronze Globe and watch a dramatic sunset over the intersection of the South China Sea and the Sulu Sea. Evening bonfire on our private beach.
Day 15 - Homeward Bound
Begin our journey home, after an incredible trip to Borneo and Malaysia together.
