What are you doing this Friday night? If the answer is having an amazing time at the Oistin’s Fish Fry in Barbados, you get five gold stars. You know what? Take six.
This crazy fish fry almost doesn’t seem real, I mean, would you believe that beside a stage of young people dancing violently, there would be a group of old men playing dominoes? These are just normal things in Barbados, because they want to make sure everyone has a good time.
Oistin’s Bay Gardens is in the south part of Barbados, just a short ride from both Bridgetown and the airport.
This place is ideal is you want to eat something different from all of your friends, and like to dance with the locals. From mahi-mahi and flying fish (the country’s national dish) to chicken, lobster, and so much more. After you have enjoyed your delicious fresh meal (made right before your eyes), you have three choices:
1. Dance to old country-western, ska, and Bob Marley music
2. Dance to current calypso music (where the DJs put a nearly constant commentary over every single song)
3. Watch others dance to ska and calypso music
All three choices are fantastic. There is no wrong answer here, so TEN GOLD STARS FOR EVERYONE.
There are also lots of vendors there selling local crafts, jewelry, and paintings, if you can find them through the sea of people having the best fried fish of their lives.
Come in casual dress, with some good shoes for grooving, and a very hungry stomach.
Barbados: crazy things are normal here.
