Feeling the October Slump? Here’s How to Reset

It’s been just over a month since the start of school, a little bit more for others — the rhythm is set, routines are forming, and yet, the energy can start to fade.
The early excitement gives way to long days, full classrooms, and endless to-do lists.

If you’re starting to feel a little drained, foggy, or just not quite yourself, you’re not alone. One of our founders, Daniel Ocean, leans on a few simple practices to bring his system — and mind — back into balance.

1. Take the Plunge

There’s nothing quite like cold water to wake up your senses and recharge your body. Whether it’s a quick cold shower or a dip in a lake or ocean, cold exposure helps:

  • Clear your head
  • Calm your nervous system
  • Sharpen focus
  • Reduce inflammation

It’s a natural way to press reset and feel grounded again.

2. Step into the Morning Sun

Before your first class or cup of coffee, step outside for 5–10 minutes of natural sunlight. Morning light helps regulate your energy, balance your circadian rhythm, and lift your mood — all essential for teachers who give so much of themselves every day.

3. Ground Yourselfo

Kick off your shoes and stand on the earth — grass, sand, soil, whatever’s around you. This simple act of barefoot grounding helps rebalance your nervous system and reconnects you to the present moment.

4. Breath Deeply

A few rounds of slow, nasal breathing can change your entire state. Try inhaling for four counts, holding for four, and exhaling for six. Deep breathwork lowers stress hormones, boosts clarity, and reminds your body that it’s safe to slow down.

5. Fuel Cleanly

What you eat directly affects your mood and focus. Reach for clean, protein-rich meals — eggs, legumes, fish, or a simple smoothie — to stabilize your energy and support your recovery.

The Simple “Reset Stack”

☀️ Morning sunlight
🧊 Cold exposure
👣 Barefoot grounding
🫁 Deep, nasal breathwork
🍳 Clean, protein-rich fuel

That’s the stack. That’s the shift.

You don’t need a week off to feel like yourself again — you just need a few intentional moments to reconnect. Share with students if they are feeling the same as you!
