Cape Town is undeniably breathtaking, framed by the glistening blues of the Atlantic and the geological formations of mountains such as Table Mountain and Lion’s Head. It is also a capital of arts and culture, with many diverse influences, evidenced by the 11 national languages and multiculturalism of the region. Cape Town is also a good base to learn of South Africa’s Apartheid-era history, including a sobering visit to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was held for 18 of the 27 years he was imprisoned.
Travel to your hotel. Check in and freshen up for the first day of exploration in Cape Town. |

Embark on an afternoon sightseeing tour of the city. Opened in 1929, this has been a must on every visitor’s list of things to do in Cape Town for almost a century. At the top, spot dassies (also known as a rock rabbit) and geckos. Participate in a guided tour and a special educational offering called Class in the Clouds, which offers worksheets and activities for students, focused on environmental science and sustainability. Learn how to identify different types of fynbos, the most common plant in the area and expand your knowledge of South African biodiversity. |
